  • The Makers Shed workshops are facilitated by Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware, Michael Burge Media, and/or visiting facilitators, at 123 Grey Street, Glen Innes, a well-maintained and safe work environment that has been risk-assessed for a small number of workshop participants.
  • The Makers Shed also offers writing workshops at venues with public liability insurance.
  • Silversmithing workshops at The Makers Shed run with a maximum of six participants.
  • Up to 10 people can attend a writing or art/craft workshop.
  • Other participants may join the same workshop you have booked.
  • Silversmithing workshop participants are required to wear suitable workshop-style clothing covering the arms and legs, and closed shoes. They should bring their own apron if they’d like to protect their clothing. Protective eyewear, ear muffs and face masks will be provided when required in workshop processes.
  • Silversmithing workshop participants will be guided and participate in the design, cutting, piercing and forging processes of hand-making their own new jewellery pieces.
  • Silversmithing workshop participants will also be guided in the use of heat soldering, mild ‘pickling’ acid, and polishing, and may participate in those processes if confident and under close supervision.
  • Silversmithing workshop participants are required to attend a 10-minute studio safety orientation at the commencement of their workshop, noting exits and correct use of equipment as demonstrated.
  • Art and Craft workshop participants should wear clothing they don’t mind getting paint or other materials on, and/or bring their own apron.
  • All workshop participants are required to observe all safety instructions given during every workshop.
  • Workshop bookings are confirmed only upon receipt of payment in full as requested in the booking email. Bookings not paid for by the payment deadline will be voided and the date/workshop places offered to other participants. Confirmed bookings are non-refundable. If participants need to cancel they may select another date to attend their workshop, or assign their workshop places to other participants.
  • If Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware or Michael Burge Media need to cancel a booked and pre-paid workshop, a full refund will be given to participants who are not in the position to select another date. Those booking and paying for workshops run by visiting facilitators, or those paying for workshops booked by a third party, need to check the terms and conditions of those businesses. Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware and Michael Burge Media will not be liable for refunding cancelled workshops and events of venue hirers or third-party booking systems.
  • Raw materials included in each silversmithing workshop are: enough sterling-silver or copper to make one piece of jewellery (e.g. one pair of earrings, one pendant, one ring, etc.).
  • Silversmithing workshop participants are encouraged to bring gemstones and other materials they’d like included in their piece. NOTE: Working with gemstones can be unpredictable, particularly when they are removed from existing settings. The use of and security of participants’ gemstones is that participant’s responsibility and Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware accepts no liability for damage and/or loss.
  • Other raw materials offered free of charge at silversmithing workshops are at the discretion of Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware and may include: leather for necklets and bracelets, repurposed leather, vintage linoleum, copper, moonstones etc.
  • The addition of gold to your workshop piece (e.g. for wedding bands) is possible with enough lead time and participants will be required to pay extra costs up-front for the raw materials.


  • All hirers need to hold current public liability insurance and show a certificate of currency in order to confirm their booking.
  • Workshop facilitators may offer up to 10 places for participants.
  • The Makers Shed must be left clean and tidy after the completion of each workshop. A large, heavy-duty drop-sheet is available for use if hirer requests.
  • Workshop hirers must supervise participants and are responsible for the safe, quiet use of the venue during the hire period, taking into account the comfort of our neighbours. Any breakages or thefts by participants will be the responsibility of the hirer.
  • Workshop hirers will not be permitted to sell workshop places to participants under the age of 12, or permit participants to bring children to any workshop who are not participants 12 years of age and over.
  • Workshop hire bookings are confirmed only upon receipt of payment in full and presentation of a certificate of currency for public liability insurance as requested in the booking email.
  • Bookings not paid for by the payment deadline will be voided and the hire date offered to other hirers. Confirmed bookings are non-refundable. If the hirer needs to cancel they may select another date to host their workshop.
  • Use of the venue’s fireplace will only be granted if Richard Moon and/or Michael Burge are in attendance. No workshop participant is to use the fireplace during the hire period unless under the supervision of Shed staff.
  • Key access to The Makers Shed will be granted to hirers in the event that Richard Moon and/or Michael Burge cannot attend during the hire period. It will be the hirer’s responsibility to ensure the venue is locked at the completion of the workshop and the key returned on the same day. A key deposit may be payable, returned to hirer once the key is returned.


  • Artisans participating at our High Country Handmade Showcase events must have a current public liability insurance certificate and present it before trading.
  • Artisans are expected to trade outdoors with their own well-presented marquee and/or tables/chairs.
  • All marquees must be pegged into the ground and/or weighted.
  • We welcome artisan groups sharing one 3 x 3-metre marquee. There is no extra fee for extra artisans sharing the same 3 x 3 space.
  • Each showcase will go ahead rain, hail or shine.
  • No indoor space will be allocated to artisans. Live music and/or food/drink traders may be cancelled in the event of extreme weather (rainy, windy or hot) at the discretion of Richard Moon and Michael Burge.
  • It is up to each artisan to decide if they will trade outdoors in extreme weather, although Richard Moon and Michael Burge retain the right to refuse trading to an artisan who does not have adequate marquee weights, pegs, and walls to trade safely in extreme conditions.
  • Artisans cancelling ahead of time are requested to let Richard Moon and/or Michael Burge know they have decided not to attend.
  • Artisans must be ready to trade at 10am and remain until 2pm. If you’re still setting up at 10am, no problem, but please be prepared to talk to customers. If you’d like to pack up a bit early, no problem, but please do not disrupt other stallholders or customers in the process.
  • Stall selection and positioning is at the discretion of Richard Moon and/or Michael Burge. Each event will be curated so that duplication of products is avoided or minimised.
  • Stall fees are $15 and payable before each event in person at The Makers Shed (cash or EFTPOS) or via online bank transfer as per the booking email.
  • Stall fees are used to promote the event on social media and/or pay for live music, and are non refundable in all circumstances.
  • Power will be available to a limited number of artisans.
  • Richard Moon and Michael Burge will promote each event widely on social and other media where possible. Artisans are expected to regularly cross-promote the event on their own social media sites.
  • Artisans must leave their allocated area clean. Single-use plastics will not be accepted at any event. Responsible packaging is essential.


  • The High Country Writers Retreat is facilitated by Michael Burge Media of The Makers Shed and Virginia Eddy of Boorama, at Waterloo Station Shearer’s Lodgings, Glen Innes, a renovated rural accommodation destination designed for groups.
  • The High Country Writers Retreat is designed to assist writers of partial or complete manuscripts (long- or short-form fiction and/or non-fiction; screenplays and/or plays) with guidance on how to prepare their writing projects for presentation to the publishing industry, or to independently (self) publish; and guidance on how to position themselves as authors with a range of marketing strategies. The High Country Writers Retreat is not a manuscript completion service or a publisher, and does not guarantee publication or sales of participants’ writing projects.
  • The High Country Writers Retreat will be fully-catered for breakfast, lunch, dinner, morning and afternoon tea, including beverages. Participants must indicate on the booking form if they are allergic or intolerant to specified foods.
  • Catering is not optional or offered in opt-in/opt-out modules and participants may not bring their own meals (this is a retreat… the point is to have things like meal preparation taken care of). All dietary requirements/intolerances will be catered for. If booking accommodation with a partner who will not join the writers retreat, participants may book catering for them and partners are welcome to all meals at the retreat, including takeaway lunch options.
  • A limited number of approximately 7-10 participants will be able to attend this retreat.
  • Retreat participants should bring warm clothing in the event of cool weather, and appropriate clothing and footwear for country bushwalking if they’d like to explore Waterloo Station.
  • Retreat participants will be given an orientation of the property soon after arrival, and must comply with all health and safety directives of the facilitators and Waterloo Station management.
  • Retreat bookings are confirmed only upon receipt of payment in full as requested in the booking email. Bookings not paid for by the payment deadline will be voided and the date/workshop places offered to other participants. Confirmed bookings are fully refundable up to 30 calendar days prior to the event. If participants need to cancel within 30 calendar days prior to the event, 50% of retreat fees will be refundable, with the balance held as credit for other regular (non-residential) workshops hosted by The Makers Shed and/or all Makers Shed products; or they may assign their retreat places to other participants.
  • If Michael Burge Media and Virginia Eddy need to cancel the retreat, a full refund will be given to participants via online bank transfer.


  • Commission on all bookshop/gallery sales is a low, non-negotiable 25%.
  • All stocked artisans and authors must provide bank details on request so that profits can be transferred online.
  • Artwork will be curated into The Makers Shed for a 3-month period changing each calendar season (e.g. summer runs from December to February). Books will be stocked until the annual High Country Writers Festival each December.
  • No dumping-and-running with your products! If your work is selected, we’d like you to put in at least one appearance at The Shed in the season your work is stocked/exhibited, e.g. you give a creator’s talk, workshop, class, or attend our High Country Handmade Showcase with your stall in that season.
  • We expect you to regularly promote your work’s availability at The Makers Shed on social media.
  • Products we work with: handmade goods of high quality: that is, you have created/made them or you know who has, and their work has been paid for ethically or given voluntarily; independently-produced/published products, such as books and CDs, ideally printed in Australia.
  • Products we don’t work with: non-handmade goods that have been predominantly made offshore; products that the seller has had little or no role in the creation of; products masquerading as ‘handmade’ or ‘Australian Made’.


  • The High Country Book Club is open to everyone to join and attend. Simply contact organiser Michael Burge using the online form here. Members can be from anywhere in the world, although those who do not attend meetings must join the club’s Facebook group in order to participate.
  • Membership is free. Independent authors of selected books are welcome to join.
  • The book club will read a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles. All books will be independently-published titles of the highest standard.
  • Some titles will be available to buy from The Makers Shed and local libraries will be alerted about purchasing them.
  • Book club members are encouraged to make suggestions about high quality independently-published titles for the club to read.
  • Selected titles will be finalists in the High Country Indie Book Award, the winner of which will be voted on by High Country Book Club members, announced at the annual High County Writers Festival each December.
  • Members may participate in the voting process for the High Country Indie Book Award, after finalist titles are read by the group. It’ll be a simple first-past-the-post vote on the single best title according to the majority of members.
  • Members are expected to be respectful to other members, including authors, at all times. Opinions about books are expected, but must be respected. Bullying, harassment or offensive behaviour (either at meetings or on the club Facebook group) will result in the member being asked to leave the club and getting banned from club social media. No negotiation will be entered into.


  • Entry to the award is via invitation only. To have your book considered, please contact curator Michael Burge using the online form here.
  • Entry is free.
  • Only one book will be considered from each author per calendar year (although we may stock your other titles in our bookshop).
  • Books must have been published from 2015 onwards. Titles published prior may be selected at Michael Burge’s discretion, by invitation only.
  • Authors may be from Australia or overseas.
  • Do not post/send a book for consideration. Please use the online form to tell us about your book. No unsolicited mailed submissions will be considered.
  • Michael Burge will take at least a week to consider each submitted book.
  • Up to 12 independently-published titles will be selected each year for this project, and the aim is to select the best quality independently-published books (in terms of content and production, including cover design, layout, etc.) and to ensure the list is as diverse as possible (in terms of genre balance, author/protagonist gender, country/culture of origin, and subject matter).
  • While diversity is the aim, it is not a quota system. Each year’s list will vary in the amount of diversity achieved. It all depends on the indie books out there, and the diversity of the industry.
  • Young Adult; Romance; Fantasy; Paranormal and Science Fiction titles are unlikely to be selected. Sequels/prequels/series built around one character are also unlikely to be selected.
  • Non-inclusion is not an indication of a publication that is not a quality/successful book. It’s all about the mix of titles.
  • No correspondence will be entered into about submitted titles not selected for the project.
  • Authors selected as finalists must act as their own distributor when stocking their titles to Michael Burge under a sale-or-return consignment agreement.
  • Approximately 10 copies of selected books will need to be supplied at the start of the agreement period, with possible subsequent re-orders. Other titles by finalist authors may be requested in the consignment agreement.
  • Books will be stocked and promoted until after the High Country Writers Festival each December, with a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) negotiated. Michael Burge will charge a non-negotiable low 25% commission on all book sales and send author profits monthly via online bank transfer or PayPal.
  • Finalists’ books will be read and judged by the readers of The High Country Book Club. This project is a reader-judged award to the title, in any genre, that is voted the most popular of that year’s list.


  • Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware is handmade as described.
  • Many pieces are made from recycled and/or re-used or re-purposed materials and therefore include products (such as vintage linoleum) which have wear and tear and an aged patina. These imperfections are part of Richard’s design process.


  • Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware can reset stones from existing pieces, but cannot guarantee the safe removal of stones from older settings.
  • Many stones, such as moonstone and opal, are quite fragile, and while every care is taken in the process, their removal from an existing setting can result in unforeseen breakage. If booking stone resetting work, we will remind you of this risk at the time of quoting. The completion of the work will be entirely at the customer’s risk.


  • Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware products are guaranteed against defective materials and workmanship and will be refunded only if the product is faulty.
  • Please email within three (3) days of receiving product if you are seeking a refund.
  • Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware does not accept responsibility for misuse, accidental, normal wear and tear or products not being cared for correctly by the consumer on any of its products.
  • Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware is handmade and as such is reasonably fragile.
  • Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware will not refund if an incorrect size (e.g. ring measurement) has been ordered.
  • No refunds will be given for colours not matching their intended purpose. Some colours may appear lighter or darker on the website or email photos due to individual computer software and photography.
  • Products being refunded must be returned within seven (7) days in the same condition as they were received i.e. unused and undamaged.
  • Postage and handling costs are not refundable and defective item/s must be returned to Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware within seven (7) days. Items must be returned via trackable post (i.e. a valid tracking number or registered post). Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware will not be held responsible for items lost in post or in transit if not returned via traceable and/or express post.


  • It is the client’s responsibility to ensure that the measurement of their ring finger is correct as per explanation of such on order.
  • Richard Moon Wearable Silver & Silverware will not be held responsible for an incorrect measurement, and recommends all ring clients attend their local jeweller to have their ring measurement identified prior to placing an order.
